Two ancient materials featured in episode 9 of my Masterclass series on YouTube the other day — labdanum and ambergris — both of which have been used over the years as part of the amber accord, although they come from very different sources. Remi Pulverail (Atelier Francais Des Matieres) joined me in my virtual YouTube studio to talk about the different types of olfactory ingredients that can be obtained from the cistus plant, before plunging into the opaque world of ambergris trading and the problems with predicting a reliable supply of the material. Here’s a link to the video: perfume Masterclass – ingredients – labdanum and ambergris.
