A little while ago, I was fortunate enough to interview Etienne De Swardt, the founder of Etat Libre D’Orange, at his brand’s flagship store in Paris. The full text of what turned out to be a relatively serious discussion will be published in due course, but today, I’d like to draw your attention to a moment in our chat when I decided to lighten the tone. I asked him which of his scents he’d recommend if certain well-known people walked into his shop… and it then occurred to me that his responses could be used as the basis for a bit of fun here on Persolaise.com. I’m pleased to say that De Swardt shared my enthusiasm for the idea, and thanks to his generosity, I’m able to hold an unusual little competition here on my blog.
What you have to do is guess which of his perfumes De Swardt suggested as being suitable for the good people in the image above. From left to right, starting at the top, they are:
In light of the fact that De Swardt currently has 28 perfumes in his range, I thought I’d make life easier for you by giving you a slightly smaller field of options from which to select your guesses. So here’s a list – in alphabetical order – of 14 ELDO perfumes, 8 of which were chosen by the brand’s founder for the people above:

Björk – Sécrétions Magnifiques, she could pull it off. It's about art after all.
Paris Hilton Putain Des Palaces (aka Hotel Slut) – because the name, but wouldn't that be funny and very self ironic. Great perfume.
the Dalai Lama – Nombril Immense
François Holllande – Antihéros.
David Beckham – Delicious Closet Queen. Didn't choose this because the name, but the smell. It could great for him. He isn't afraid of more beautiful notes in perfume.
Barack Obama – Eloge Du Traitre. This isn't because name either. I think Eloge du traitre is great perfume for men in power.
Madonna – Rien. There was't any big tuberosa, so I pick this. Big and loud perfume for confident person.
Well knowing Mr De Swardt's taste for subversion and avant garde, his suggestions must not be the most obvious..

Obama: Antihéros, because I think "unconventional elegance" is perfect for him.

David Beckham: Delicious Closet Queen, not because of the name, but because of the line in the scent description about "belonging to everyone but yielding to no one." Beckham seems very mysterious to me.
Dalai Lama: Nombril Immense, although I thought Like This and Vierges et Toreros would also be good choices.
Paris Hilton: Putain Des Palaces (aka Hotel Slut) I just had to choose this one.
Francoise Hollande: Rien because it is about what lies underneath an unassuming name and facade
Bjork: Vierges Et Toreros because of the idea of the "power of flower." Bjork is simultaneously powerful and gentle.
Madonna: Rossy de Palma, because of the virgin/whore contrast. I can also see Tom of Finland or Secretions Magnifiques.
