Lush have released three sample sets containing four 10 ml perfumes each: I featured them in a recent episode of Love At First Scent. All three are worth checking out, especially Retrospective, as it provides a neat summary of how Mark and Simon Constantine’s style evolved over the years. In the broadcast, I focused particularly on Breath Of God. If anything, the scent is more interesting than it was over a decade ago, when it first emerged. Its contrast of the no-holds-barred leather note with the equally unrestrained aquatic opening seems prescient now, given that so many brands – both mainstream and independent – have taken to playing with extremely broad brush strokes in their compositions.
