In 2012, Tom Ford Cafe Rose emerged as one of four ‘garden’ scents. It then went the way of many TF releases (which is to say it was pulled off the shelves) but it has now been reworked, re-bottled and re-released as part of the brand’s mainstream range. Here’s a link to my YouTube review of it: Tom Ford Cafe Rose 2023 review.

Despite recent changes to the brand’s ownership structure, I remain interested in what the Tom Ford label has to bring to the perfume world; as things stand right now, I feel I can justifiably stand by my assertion that out of every five or so of their releases, one is genuinely praiseworthy. For a global brand that puts out several new works every year, that’s a respectable success rate. Sadly, this new Cafe Rose isn’t one of the commendable entries. Insufficiently rosy to earn its name – and certainly not coffee-ish enough either – it is a timid, anaemic, vaguely velvety green-floral with hardly any distinguishing features… apart from the fact that it comes across as decidedly decaffeinated.

  1. I bought this as a blind buy – timid is a good description. After wearing for a week – the drydown is glorious on me. I had a compliment from a complete stranger that it smelled gorgeous! I get a beautiful rose incense – no sign of coffee and the opening is disappointing- can’t even describe it.
