“I was making a perfume … and suddenly I was a little overcome, and I realised that this was how I wanted my father to smell … He loved it, and he died six weeks after I met him.”

Interesting things are happening at Lush. They’ve ditched the Gorilla Perfume name. They’ve re-branded many of the old Gorilla scents under the Lush banner. And they’ve now opened a shop in Florence selling nothing but perfume and perfume-related books. I was fortunate enough to attend the opening of the new space last week and I’ve put together a little video report on it, which you can watch above, or by clicking here.

Most of the film consists of founder Mark Constantine explaining the concept behind the shop’s two halves and sharing some very personal thoughts on his experiences in the world of perfumery.

In addition to the main range, the new store sells five Florence-exclusive scents composed by Lush’s current in-house perfumer, Emma Dick. I had only very brief sniffs of them during the launch, but if I get a chance to smell them properly, I’ll do my best to review them here or on YouTube at some point.

The Lush Perfume Library store is at 94 Via dei Calzaiuoli, 50123 Florence.

Enjoy the video!

  1. Such an interesting article, Persolaise, thank you. I was a huge fan of Cosmetics To Go way back when, & loved their Ginger perfume, which used to get comments from complete strangers on public transport! I’m hoping to visit Liverpool next year so will make a point of going to their relatively new flagship store there, where a lovely chap in one of their Glasgow locations tells me I can source said perfume.

    1. Many thanks to you, Carolyn, for reading and watching. Yes, their work has had lots of fans over the years.

I very much want to see their Liverpool store too. I’ve heard good things about it.

I love hearing from my readers, so please feel free to write a comment or ask a question.
