Episode 148 of Love At First Scent was a review of a perfume with one of the most delightful openings I’ve had the pleasure to encounter all year: Masque Milano Ray-Flection, composed by Alex Lee. To watch the video, and be transported to the mimosa-scented sunshine of winter in the south of France, click on this link: Masque Milano Ray-Flection review.

The people behind the brand seem to think that this fragrance is some kind of strange, ‘alien’ floral. And of course they’re free to read it that way; after all, they made it. But to my mind, it is its ability to conjure a very real, earth-bound setting that is its chief strength. The honey and the cardamom come together to support various facets of the mimosa and create an expansive, sweeping panorama of thousands of those optimistic, yellow powder puffs. Charming work.
