Obeying the rule that every single brand must have an ‘exclusive’ perfume collection in its catalogue, Versace have put together a six-fragrance set under their Atelier Versace banner. I talked about the range – and focussed particularly on Jasmin Au Soleil and Figue Blanche – in episode 141 of Love At First Scent, over on YouTube. Here’s a link to the video: Atelier Versace perfume review.
It was hard to find anything commendable about these fragrances. A few interesting efforts aside, Versace’s recent track record in the perfume game has been quite abysmal, so perhaps it’s not surprising that this ‘high end’ collection displays the same cynicism and laziness that we see in most of their mainstream range. When the brand charges £300+ per bottle, it would not have been unreasonable of us to expect compositions that made use of some interesting, multi-layered accords and materials. But what we have instead is an exercise in crass predictability. Shame.
