As I type these words, the fragrance world is abuzz with the news that Estée Lauder might be purchasing Puig, the company that currently owns several perfume brands, including L’Artisan Parfumeur and Penhaligon’s. I dare say the takeover (or are they calling it a merger?) will go ahead, which is why I find myself wondering what it spells for the latter house’s most iconic creations, not least Lily Of The Valley, the Michael Pickthall composition which this year marks its 50th anniversary.
