I stepped back into my little YouTube studio the other day for episode 140 of Love At First Scent: a review of the new Penhaligon’s The Inimitable William Penhaligon. The latest addition to their Portrait range (or what I call the Cluedo Collection) it features vetiver as its central note. To watch the video, please click on this link: Penhaligon’s The Inimitable William Penhaligon review.

Sadly, as per usual for this particular range, the character in this composition is far from inimitable. Indeed, he’s the exact opposite: safe, predictable and more than a little clone-like. Granted, the sandalwood here doesn’t come across as quite as crass and off-putting as it does in some other recent-ish releases from the brand, but neither does it present much sense of refinement or sophistication. The vetiver is equally unremarkable. Pleasant enough stuff, in a wholly forgettable way.

  1. ‘The Cluedo Collection’ – that did make me laugh, Persolaise, thank you! I do feel Penhaligon has lost its way a tad, however, sadly.

I love hearing from my readers, so please feel free to write a comment or ask a question.
