Things got personal over on YouTube the other day when I finally broadcast the video I’d been avoiding for years: my Top 10 (+1) best leather perfumes. Here’s a link to the episode, followed by a list of all the scents I covered, with timestamps: Top 10 best leather perfumes.
Chanel Cuir De Russie (Ernest Beaux) 5:27
Tauer Lonestar Memories (Andy Tauer) 11:10
Dior Leather Oud (Francois Demachy) 16:30
Knize Ten (Francois Coty & Vincent Roubert) 22:45
Hermes Cuir D’Ange (Jean-Claude Ellena) 26:54
Chanel Antaeus (Jacques Polge & Francois Demachy) 32:05
Salvatore Ferragamo Testa Di Moro (Fabrice Pellegrin) 36:00
Tom Ford Tuscan Leather (Harry Fremont & Jacques Cavallier) 38:57
Montale Aoud Cuir D’Arabie 42:40
Piguet Bandit (Germaine Cellier) 46:48
Etat Libre D’Orange Rien (Antoine Lie) 49:35
During the broadcast, I spoke briefly about why I think this genre appeals to me as much as it does. But one thing I didn’t go into is that all of the above perfumes have such gorgeous, knee-melting drydowns. Tauer’s sweeps you off into some fantasy of horizonless landscapes. Antaeus final stages lift you up to the halls of the gods themselves. The Ferragamo’s is like succumbing to passion after months of agonising restraint. Cuir D’Ange‘s breaks your heart with its fragility. And Leather Oud‘s plunges you into the most delicious corners of sin. They’re all special in their own right. And they all have to be tried.
Persolaise

The only one that I haven’t tried is Leather Oud. Someday.
“Hasta la vista Persolaise” .
It’s well worth seeking out.
