I managed to find some time this weekend to work on a couple of formulae I’m trying to develop, which means the air in my study is now a bizarre combination of galbanum, fenugreek and turmeric. I’ve also been smelling a few raw materials which recently arrived in the post, including some jasmine absolutes from different sources. It’s amazing how much variation there can be between batches of what’s ostensibly the same substance. Amazing, but hardly surprising. After all, within a single supermarket, there can be massive differences between the colours, textures, smells and tastes of, say, all the tomatoes on offer.

Changing the subject, I also recently had a chance to try the perfumes of Angela Flanders, who must surely be London’s best kept fragrance secret. All being well, I should be able to write something about her work soon.

As the first anniversary of this blog draws nearer, I’m trying to think of some suitable way to mark the occasion. I think a special give-away might be in order…

  1. Ooh, I bought some Angela Flanders perfume samples recently, and then got a cold which meant I couldn't dive in and appreciate them.
