Following on from my mention of it in a recent blog post (click here to read it), I reviewed the new Parle Moi De Parfum Wake Up World over on YouTube the other day. Here’s a link to the episode: Parle Moi De Parfum Wake Up World review.

I remain taken with the scent, even though I’m also somewhat conflicted about how much praise should be lavished on a re-presentation of an old idea. As I say in the video, the key point in this particular case is that the original idea in question (ie Paloma Picasso Minotaure) isn’t the same as it used to be (having been diminished to something of a mini-taur) so it’s not as though the Almairacs are offering us a composition that is still available elsewhere.

Putting aside the relative boorishness of the woody-ambers in the drydown of Wake Up World, the rest is a smile-inducing, 90s-throwback delight, contrasting tart, green apple and sweet vanilla with a confidence we don’t often see in masculine-leaning perfumery these days. Wake up… and turn to the past, for therein lies true inspiration.
