[Escentric Molecules, Moncler, Trudon and Diptyque reviews based on samples
provided by the brands in 2023.]

Tea, frozen woods and fragrant cherry blossoms – just some of the riches I presented in a recent episode of Love At First Scent, which featured reviews of new releases from Escentric Molecules and Moncler. Here’s a link to the video, followed by a list of everything I covered, with timestamps: Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 + Black Tea, + Ginger, + Guaiac Wood, Moncler Le Solstice, Moncler Le Bois Glace, Trudon Aphelie, Trudon Sous Un Ciel De Petales candle, Diptyque Fleur De Cerisier candle reviews.

Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 + Ginger (Geza Schoen) 5:48
Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 + Black Tea (Geza Schoen) 11:20
Escentric Molecules Molecule 01 + Guaiac Wood (Geza Schoen) 14:51
Moncler Le Solstice (Daniela Andrier) 22:51
Moncler Le Bois Glace (Fabrice Pellegrin) 33:10
Diptyque Fleur De Cerisier candle 39:04
Trudon Sous Un Ciel De Petales candle 42:27
Trudon Aphelie (Antoine Lie) 46:50

As far as the Escentric Molecules and Moncler releases are concerned, I don’t have a great deal to add to what I said during the broadcast. The former are as pleasant, wearable and innocuous as you’d expect an Iso E Super bomb to be. And the latter are composed of high quality materials and are extremely well put-together, but they appear determined not to rock the boat (or should that be ‘kick up the snow’?) in any way at all. That said, Le Bois Glace deserves praise for presenting a vetiver which doesn’t go down the ‘boiled vegetable’ route pursued by most fragrances in this genre.

The highlight of the episode was Trudon Aphelie, a 2021 Antoine Lie composition featuring contrasts between greens and reds, petals and woods, bitterness and sweetness. Lie is fond of dark, brooding tones, and his exploration of such aesthetics within the sophisticated Trudon universe results in a green-woody-rose that is both refined and curiously untamed. Striking work.
