Here’s a question for a research project: is there a link between smoking and a love of tobacco perfumes? Or, to be more precise: are you likelier to enjoy tobacco perfumes if you’re averse to cigarettes? While you’re pondering the feasibility of that negative correlation, you might want to watch my review of one of the newest tobacco scents to come our way: Dior Tobacolor, part of the brand’s exclusive Maison Christian Dior range. Here’s a link to the video: Dior Tobacolor review.
The dividing line within this collection is becoming clearer and clearer. On the one hand, there are the sheer florals that seem to have their sights set on the far eastern market. And on the other, there are the heavier, woodier, oud-ier compositions, aimed at the Gulf. Although Tobacolor falls into the latter, Demachy deserves praise for not over-egging it. This is a recognisable, legible tobacco scent, and all the better for it. Dry, hay-like, leafy, with a well-judged injection of plum notes, it evokes enigmatic interiors where secrets and scandals are concealed beneath heavy drapes and even heavier sighs. Commendable work.

Hi, I saw your review on Tobacolor. Sounds interesting. Is it comparable with Smoke from Akro? I have that one and it has a very strong tobacco opening.
I’m afraid I don’t know the Akro scent. But perhaps someone else reading this might be able to help.
Thanks for writing.
My Father smoked a pipe for 40 years, but even he quit when he was about 70 years old. He smoked the classic Sir Walter Raleigh in the red tin cans. But had special “Sunday church” tobaccos that he would buy from a specialty tobacco store. I still have a pouch of his special tobacco to sniff occasionally. I look forward to smelling this new Dior.
Gosh — if you manage to smell this release, I’d love to know what you think of it.
