For my latest episodes of Love At First Scent I decided to (sort of) revive my old Super Scent series and focus on just one brand. So it is with great pleasure – and with gratitude to YouTube for sorting out a glitch that threatened to ruin the live stream! – that I bring you my rundown of the Top 10 best perfumes from Frederic Malle. You can watch them on this page or by clicking on these links: best Frederic Malle perfumes part 1 and part 2.

The reason for the broadcast coming in two parts is explained in the videos. Here’s the complete list of the perfumes I covered:

1st video
Portrait Of A Lady (at the start of the video)
The Night (at the 14:00 minute mark)

2nd video
Lipstick Rose (at the 5:30 minute mark)
Iris Poudre (at the 13:00 minute mark)
En Passant (at the 21:00 minute mark)
Carnal Flower (at the 24:30 minute mark)
Musc Ravageur (at the 37:30 minute mark)
L’Eau D’Hiver (at the 42:00 minute mark)
Noir Epices (at the 46:30 minute mark)
Dries Van Noten (at the 49:00 minute mark)
Une Fleur De Cassie (at the 54:00 minute mark)

Enjoy!

  1. I loved this series of reviews-I think this is the most I’ve ever seen you smile-I think you really loved doing this series!

I thought I would love Carnal Flower, and it’s a beautiful fragrance-just not my beautiful fragrance. In the end my first FM fragrance was- Fleur de Caissie. So thank you for showing it some love-it never gets enough. I don’t ever find it difficult to wear and it’s just beautiful.

My other favourite gets no love at all, from anyone, and it’s…Dans Tes Bras. I was once given a 10 ml bottle, from a lovely sales person. I hadn’t asked for it and certainly never expected it. Sprayed it on a blotter and came back to it-wondering what was that fantastic smell. There’s an earthy, clean dirt like note that makes me really happy. It’s gorgeous.

So is the Dries van Noten scent. It’s so rich and so sophisticated, I just love it.

Bigarade Concentree also pleases me a lot. For a long time I’d wear Vetiver Ex. on my ankles, and Une Rose on the wrists. I liked that combination, too.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts on this line with us,

    Very best regards,

    Carole MacLeod

    1. Carole, thank you so much for writing. Was I really smiling that much? Interesting…

Dans Tes Bras does have many, many fans, but I’ve always found its over-reliance on Cashmeran a bit disappointing. I would have liked the drydown to be a bit more complex… but that’s just me. You must continue to love and wear the scent!

  2. I first noticed Portrait of a Lady on a friend, who told me that people followed her to ask what she was wearing. So I purchased a bottle. Guess what nobody has ever noticed it on me or commented,I am so disappointed. I have spent a fortune on perfume over the years and had this problem before. The only perfume that is noticed on me is Clinique Aromatics.

I love hearing from my readers, so please feel free to write a comment or ask a question.
