L’Artisan Parfumeur Nuit De Tubereuse Review (Bertrand Duchaufour; 2010) & 11 Years Of Persolaise

By the Internet’s standards, 2010 is ancient history. And yet, in many ways, it only feels like yesterday that the first post appeared here on Persolaise.com. Long time ago or not, one thing’s for sure: there is no way I would still be writing and talking about perfume if it weren’t for all of you. So thank you for your support, your kindness and your generosity. And thanks also for watching episode 175 of Love At First Scent, in which I marked the 11th anniversary of Persolaise by reviewing a fragrance which was released in 2010: L’Artisan Parfumeur Nuit De Tubereuse, composed by Bertrand Duchaufour. I’m not sure if the same can be said of yours truly, but Duchaufour’s fruity, spicy tuberose has aged well. Indeed, hindsight now allows us to proclaim that it’s one of the more unusual tuberose releases of the century, maintaining the clarity and legibility of the central note (the indolic snarl, the camphor elements, the assertive sweep) while harmonising it with unusual flourishes (the acidic mango, the gunpowdery pepper, the bracing mint). This is Duchaufour at the height of his powers, somehow managing to make the familiar feel distinctive and memorable. I don’t know if Persolaise.com will still be around in another 11 years’ time, but I hope Nuit De Tubereuse will be with us for many, many more.
