An oud-based flanker is perhaps the last release we would have expected from Les Indemodables, but that’s precisely what they’ve given us in the form of Vanille Havane – Coeur De Oud, composed by Antoine Lie and made using an ultrasound-extracted oud ingredient obtained from a decades-old piece of agar wood. The brand’s founders, Valerie and Remi Pulverail, popped into my virtual studio the other day to tell us the story of the scent’s creation — and why it was initially kept a secret from Valerie! — as well as to discuss the thorny issue of current perfume prices, which fragrance brands they rate (you might be surprised by their answer) and whether they’d ever work with a perfumer other than Lie. Here’s a link to the broadcast: Valerie & Remi Pulverail live interview.
