It’s generally accepted that the first, true ‘niche’ perfume brand was L’Artisan Parfumeur. But what if the history books have got that little detail wrong and what if the honour should actually belong to Le Jardin Retrouve, founded by Yuri Gutsatz? That was one of several questions I put to Clara Feder and Michel Gutsatz (Yuri’s son) in a recent live interview over on YouTube. A few years ago, the husband-and-wife duo revived the brand and, with the help of Givaudan’s Maxence Moutte, are helping Yuri’s work find a new audience. Theirs is a story full of genuinely spine-tingling twists and coincidences, so I urge you to watch the interview. Here’s a link: Clare Feder and Michel Gutstaz, Le Jardin Retrouve, live interview.
