Joseph Quartana’s re-design and revival of his eponymous brand continues to make strong progress: after last year’s hypnotic Ierofante, he has now given us the equally mysterious Forest Of The Golden Dream, composed by Celine Barel. I reviewed it on a recent episode of Love At First Scent, which you can find at this link: Quartana Forest Of The Golden Dream review.
According to the brand’s website, “Forest Of The Golden Dream transports the wearer into a hazy memory of a walk through a primordial pine forest where time has stopped.” And if that isn’t an example of a creative director fulfilling their intentions 100%, then I don’t know what is, because I couldn’t agree more with that description. However, the only thing I’d say is that those words offer only a part of the story. The reason the golden, fairytale aspect of this composition works is that it’s contrasted with a veil of nocturnal mystery, in the form of earthy, woody, patchouli notes. As every childhood story shows, light is meaningless without darkness. And it is the more threatening, pain-ridden elements of this particular scented narrative that lift it out of the ordinary.

I had a chance to sample a number of perfumes when Quartana first came out. Stamatis of Twisted Lily sent me them with an order I placed. I did like Wolfsbane and Bloodflowers, and maybe another I got with a another purchase from Twisted Lily. If you say they are good Persolaise, I’ll check them out.
Boy I miss the old days when Twisted Lily had a brick and morter.
Thanks for this. I seem to remember being impressed with their lily of the valley.
