It’s not always easy to keep up. A few months ago, I was given a sample set of Givenchy’s exclusive Collection Particuliere. I’d fully intended to review it, but as per usual, the days and weeks ran away from me… and now I see that the range is about to receive a few new additions. So it was time to make amends over on YouTube the other day with a sniff of some of the key compositions in the brand’s latest attempt to crack the high-end market. Here’s a link to the video: Givenchy Collection Particuliere review.

Putting aside the Accord Particuliere – the gimmicky, Ambroxan-heavy concoction which Givenchy claim we can layer with any of the other scents – it’s difficult to find anything especially particuliere in this assortment. Indeed, it’s the distinct lack of singularity which is these perfumes’ defining feature: solidly-made scents that seem determined to prioritise elegance and decorum over boldness and originality. An amber that ticks all the right boxes but doesn’t stand out from the best in the genre. An orange blossom that hovers close to North African confections without sinking its teeth into them. An oud that is in denial about the essential filthiness of oud. And so on and so forth. Pleasant, likeable pieces of work with few truly memorable features. It’ll be interesting to see if the new entries continue in the same vein.
