For episode 115 of Love At First Scent, I channeled my inner leather-clad teddy bear (or something) to review last year’s masculine release from Moschino: Toy Boy, composed by Yann Vasnier. To watch the video – in which no teddy bears are compromised – please click on this link: Moschino Toy Boy review.

This scent was such a delightful surprise, it made me resolve to try even harder to get Vasnier into my virtual studio for a live interview. Like a cross between Michel Almairac’s Gucci Pour Homme and Daniela Andrier’s original Marni (now discontinued, I believe) it is, for once, a convincing blend of ‘masculine’ spices and greens with a rose that isn’t afraid of its ‘femininity’. A playful triumph. But what we make of the kitschy bottle is another question altogether…

  1. Toy Boy is a pleasant surprise to me. It reminds me of Penhaligon’s Much Ado about the Duke, which is among my top three roses. Both are marketed as masculine perfumes but to me they are perfectly feminine. I’m glad you like it.

    1. Neva, thanks for taking the time to write — yes, ‘surprise’ is the right word here. Who knew such a charming rose would emerge from that bear!
