With a week to go until the 10th anniversary of this blog (absolutely does not seem possible!) I thought I’d look back to the very first review I published here: Voyage D’Hermes, composed by Jean-Claude Ellena. Wearing the edt right now, I’m struck by its opening burst of peppery energy: my memory was of something less bracing. What’s more curious is that, re-reading my review, I think I now hold the scent in higher regard than I did ten years ago. There’s something about its refusal to shout that feels welcome in an environment where the loudest voices rule. Maybe that was always Ellena’s point: to inspire a journey into the realms of the internal. Into self-reflection and contemplation. I’d like to mark the anniversary in some way, so if you have any ideas – a special post of some sort, or a special YouTube video? – please feel free to share them.
