Yesterday I showcased the finalists in this year’s FiFi UK Best Fragrance Commercial categories, so today I thought I’d publish the shortlist for the Hall Of Fame. The twenty fragrances below have been nominated by the FiFi committee as being worthy of special recognition for their importance to the industry and the art of perfumery. I’m told the winner will be determined by a poll that will take place during Thursday’s event, but until then, I thought it might be interesting to find out which of these, if any, holds an important place in your hearts.
Before you ask, no, I haven’t yet decided which scent will get my vote; at the moment I’m hovering between No 5 and Poison. I find it interesting that Dior has been represented no fewer than three times, whereas there’s only one mention of Guerlain. But more importantly, I wonder if we’re supposed to judge these scents in their current formulations or according to their past greatness. And let’s not even get started on the subject of the different guises of Miss Dior.
Persolaise.

Oh, this is an easy one for me. Youth Dew, no discussion!
Have fun.
Preeta
Preeta, thanks for writing. I'm so pleased that Youth Dew is still a force to be reckoned with. It's easily one of the best American perfumes ever made.
No Shalimar?? I guess it'll have to be Mitsouko, then.
Enjoy the awards.
MG
MG, I should think Mitsouko will win quite a few votes on Thursday night.
From this list, I would vote for Chanel #5, but I'm w/anonymous – no Shalimar?
Rosarita, at first I wondered if Shalimar is already in the Hall Of Fame, but I'm pretty sure this is the first time the UK FiFis have included this category. I could be wrong; I'll find out on Thursday. But anyway, if this is the first year of the Hall Of Fame, then I agree that the absence of Shalimar on the list is shocking.
I keep thinking I'll probably vote for No 5… but I'm still not 100% sure
Angel… and Eau Sauvage, still. Opium, too, had it retained a bit more of the said past greatness.
Laurinha, thanks… but if you had to choose just one…?
From this list I have to go with Chanel No 5 (secretly like to see Giorgio win). Shalimar would have trumped them all for me. ♥
Leslie Ann, I voted for No 5 in the end… but guess what: Angel won!
