This is just a short entry to wish you all a great weekend and remind you that you’ve got until Sunday night (UK time) to enter the draw for a sample of any one of the eight SoOud perfumes.

If all goes according to plan, Sunday will also see the publication of a (fairly long!) post in which I attempt to get to grips with the notion of an objective assessment of a perfume’s merits. Come back then and share your own thoughts on the subject.

Some of you may also be interested to learn that in the next few weeks I hope to upload reviews of several fragrances from Dior’s new La Collection range as well as L’Artisan Parfumeur’s Traversée Du Bosphore and Guerlain’s two Arsène Lupin scents. And I still need to write a bit more about Paris!

As far as my personal perfumery is concerned, I’m pleased to be able to say that this week I’ve managed to have several productive sessions with my lotions and potions. My current idea – essentially based around the concept of a particular place – is slowly coming along, but as I think I’ve mentioned before, I now need to increase the number of planes on which it operates… which involves much more than just chucking a whole load of spices into the stew.

Oh and finally – just to end on a gloriously prosaic note – the date for the two-week destruction (and, fingers crossed, resurrection) of the bathroom has been set… and it’s only a few weeks away. How many sprays of Tauer do you think I’ll need to mask the odour of unwashed Persolaise…?

Have a wonderful weekend, everybody.

Persolaise.

  1. Looking forward in particular to your thoughts on the Dior La Collection Vetiver. I've little experience with coffee as a note and want to experiment. La Collection is as good a place as any to begin experimentation! It's almost like that's what it's there for. Not sure if you got to read my favorable review of Leather Oud, but favorable it is. Stupendous scent!

  2. Hi Carrie,

First of all, I need to say that I hope what I'm about to type appears on my blog. I've been persuaded to install a new comments facility (what do you think of it?) and I'm paranoid that it's going to mess everything up. Last night, for a few awful moments, I thought I'd lost every single comment everyone had ever left for me!

Anyway, I'm pretty sure I'll be able to upload my Vetiver review fairly soon, and yes, La Collection would be a great place to start… but I didn't know that Vetiver is supposed to contain coffee! I shall sniff it with great curiosity.

  3. Hi Persolaise,

I think it´s because the way we post comments have changed but just wanted to let you know, in case, and it doesn´t bother me at all, just to let you know that all the comments are being sent to my email, the old comments from your posts.. maybe a glitch between blogspot and disqus. Happy weekend. Just three sprays. LOVE

  4. This is a much better comment setup and is one I often encounter. Showing only a snippet of a post on the homepage allows for quick scanning of the posts – then when I find one I like, I'm happy to click through and read more.. and leave a comment 😛

  5. VFX1981, thanks for writing. It'll probably take me a while to get used to this new system, but it seems all right so far…

  6. Vintage Lady, that is VERY weird! As far as I can tell, you're the only person who's had this problem so far, but if it's happened to anyone else out there, perhaps they could let me know, please.

PS. Three sprays isn't NEARLY enough 😉

  7. For a while, there was a bit of a battle between Intense Debate and Disqus, but the latter seems to have won.

  8. Some of you may have noticed that over the last day or so, I've been playing around with a new comments facility called Disqus. The experiment hasn't been wholly successful, so I'm disabling it for the moment. Unfortunately, I seem to have lost a few comments that were left in the last 24-36 hours.

I'm sorry for any inconvenience caused by this odd little technological blip.

  9. Darling Friend, probably I was the only one to receive them. But it didn't bore me at all. Just thought to let you know in case some settings were not fixed, just told you because of you, I like re reading comments, and by the way, three sprays are nearly enough as you say, because today I changed my mind, since it's a new refurbished place it has to have the scent of it all over to party with it! Five, six, seven… oh how wonderful~~! If you have neighbours they could come ask if they can have a short shower as theirs isn't working:D!

  10. I have had the same issue with all of the comments I've ever left on different posts being sent to my email (I always subscribe to posts). It's no big deal though, just have to delete them. 🙂

  11. Carrie, thanks for that. If you subscribe to posts, then I guess your Inbox will get pretty clogged up, but I think some readers received a ton of emails even though they hadn't clicked the 'Subscribe' option.

I'll keep looking for something better. Or maybe I'll try Disqus again next week.

I love hearing from my readers, so please feel free to write a comment or ask a question.
