It’s not every day that a brand releases a scent like Angel. And it’s certainly not every day that I get to interview a perfumer who has made a scent like Angel. But sure enough, there he was in my virtual studio: the one and only Olivier Cresp, beaming in from somewhere in Normandy. Needless to say, the subject of what just happens to be one of the most successful fragrances of all time came up once or twice in our conversation. But we also talked about his work for Kenzo, why he insists he’s a figurative perfumer, as well as the advice Francois Demachy once gave him about reformulation. And of course, we delved into the addictive world of Akro: the brand Cresp co-founded with his daughter and her husband.
