Fitz-James Stuart perfume review by award-winning critic Persolaise, 2026

–

The release of the debut quartet from Fitz-James Stuart highlights the acute creative problem at the heart of a perfume industry that currently sees the release of well over 10,000 new scents per year. The collection has been curated and directed by Sofia Palazuelo and Fernando Fitz-James Stuart, two members of Spain’s nobility who have decided to “capture the essence of more than five centuries of history,” with the help of none other than Alberto Morillas. There is, of course, nothing intrinsically wrong with this. Sure, an aristocratic family may face fewer financial barriers than others when it comes to setting up a brand, but that needn’t have any bearing on the quality of the ideas behind the scents. The issue is that, in today’s environment, when heritage, entrepreneurship and perfumery meet, they settle down in a territory defined by extreme caution.
