[Tom Ford Electric Cherry review based on a sample provided by the brand in 2023.]

I shall do my best not to fall into the trap of making cheap jokes about Tom Ford‘s cherries, peaches and rose pricks. So in the interests of brevity – and modesty?- I will simply say that in a recent episode of Love At First Scent, I reviewed one of his latest fruity concoctions, Electric Cherry, reportedly composed by Louise Turner. Here’s a link to the video: Tom Ford Electric Cherry review.

‘Hit and miss’ would be a good way to describe TF’s output of the last few years, with Electric Cherry landing firmly in the latter camp. Its initial cherry-laser-beam opening may be fun – radiating a compelling sense of youthful insouciance – but proceedings quickly descend into the realms of uninspired fruity-muskiness. Ford has never shied away from garish styles, but in his best work, he’s managed to make his slightly trashy aesthetic interesting and memorable by grounding it in genuine, authoritative substance. Regrettably, Electric Cherry is all fluff and no brains, and I fear it may be a sign of similar compositions heading our way from all sorts of different brands.

Incidentally, its counterpart, Cherry Smoke, is superior – taking the fruitiness into darker, chypre-like territory – but it too fades into a personality-free zone with disappointing rapidity.
