I am never ready for rosé. I’m not much of a drinker anyway, but rosé is perhaps my least favourite tipple, and certainly my least favourite wine. So I was intrigued to discover the charms, or otherwise, of the latest from Veronique Gabai: Ready For Rosé. Here’s a link to my YouTube broadcast on the scent: Veronique Gabai Ready For Rose review.

Any worries that this might have been an evocation of what I’ve always seen as a rather insubstantial, tasteless drink are quelled from the start. Indeed, this isn’t so much about rosé but more about the settings and occasions at which it is sometimes, sadly, brought to the table. An innocuous, light-filled fruity-floral, it passes the time pleasantly enough and is soon forgotten. Perhaps its most memorable aspect, albeit in a concerning way, is its price: £245 for 85 ml of edp. Maybe the name is a reference to the state of inebriation you have to enter before being able to shell out that amount of money for what is an extremely safe piece of work.
