The worlds of scent and gastronomy collide in the latest release from Serge Lutens. Well no, not quite. The brand have chosen to call their new form of Ambre Sultan a ‘confit’, although that’s about as far as the connection goes, unless of course we’re meant to pour the stuff all over the Christmas canard. Dubious culinary kinks aside, the so-called confit is a concentrated oil form of the classic amber scent, and I reviewed it over on YouTube the other day. Here’s a link: Serge Lutens Ambre Sultan perfume confit review.

All I have to add to the video is that the passage of a few hours was very kind to this relatively dense format, lending the vanillic, balsamic base a woozy, intoxicating quality. It’s worth mentioning that Lutens have also released a ‘hair fragrance’ of AS (which I’ve yet to try) and that both these new formats have also been extended to La Fille De Berlin and Chergui. The prospect of the latter as an oil is quite enticing.
