As though by cruel design, the perfume world continues to draw our attention to all the things we can’t do very easily at the moment. In this case, it’s wandering around observing the world and the people in it: the latest release from the Barcelona-based brand 27 87 is called Flaneur and I reviewed it on episode 198 of Love At First Scent. Here’s a link: 27 87 Flaneur review.

Sadly, the scent isn’t one of 27 87’s finest achievements. The bitter green, absinthe-like opening is intriguing – evoking a contrast between the urban and the natural – but the drydown makes excessive use of musks and woody ambers. For a perfume inspired by an activity that is the epitome of gentle, carefree spontaneity, it tries far too hard to draw attention to itself.
