The latest episode in my Love At First Scent series over on YouTube features a review of the new Maison Francis Kurkdjian L’Homme A La Rose, composed by Francis Kurkdjian, of course. Here’s a link to the video: Maison Francis Kurkdjian L’Homme A La Rose review.

Many of you will be aware that the received wisdom in the world of marketing is that you mustn’t ever use the word ‘rose’ in a name or description of a perfume aimed at men. It’s believed that this rings their alarm bells as surely as the appearance of Donald Trump at a feminist rally. Well, L’Homme A La Rose feels like a weird reversal of this principle: it seems to want to attract men who quite fancy being able to say that – shock horror – they’re wearing a rose scent… but who don’t actually want to smell overtly rosy. Because that is the most curious feature of this release: it doesn’t display an especially prominent rose note. Go figure.
