Tom Ford Figue Erotique review by award-winning perfume critic Persolaise, 2026

Amongst the divisive genre of green perfumes, perhaps none are more contentious than those which attempt to capture the smell of fig leaves. The vegetal, green-pea-and-bell-pepper compositions such as Chanel No 19 may not set the world’s tills on fire, but they do have plenty of devotees. And at the other end of the green scale, the scents that aim to replicate the bracing sharpness of freshly cut grass (Cartier L’Heure Vertueuse is the first one that comes to mind) enjoy an equally respectable amount of admiration, even though they too tend not to make it to the top of bestseller lists. But fig scents occupy a territory all their own: not only do they rarely strike a chord with buyers, but they’re also amongst the least liked of all perfumes. So it’s perhaps surprising that for their latest Private Blend release, the people at Tom Ford have decided to turn to this particular plant, although if anything succeeds in making fig more mainstream it may well turn out to be Figue Erotique.
