Reading between the lines, it would seem that Royaume is the brand’s update of the Section D’Or range, which launched in 2014 to loud protestations about its exorbitant price tag. One presumes that as the Gratte Ciel seem to have had their day, the folks at Lutens decided the house needed another ‘haute’ collection, and the bling-fully packaged Royaume would appear to it. It consists of three older compositions (2015’s Sidi Bel-Abbes and Cracheuses De Flammes and 2020’s Tarab) as well as two new works, Zurafa and the unforgivingly tongue-twistery Bois Roi D’Agalloche. Be warned: these scents are not cheap. At the time of writing, on the brand’s UK website, they retail at £325 for 100 ml. By most measures, that is a lot of pennies. But a few in the range are very tempting indeed, so if you do have three-hundred pounds kicking around somewhere, looking for a home, you might want to read on.
