Beware the perfume name that sets high expectations. When you decide to call a scent Eidesis, you can’t hold it against people if they anticipate a rich, vivid, detailed composition, full of nuance and complexity. Sadly, the latest from Aesop doesn’t live up to its moniker, as I explained in a recent episode of Love At First Scent. Here’s a link: Aesop Eidesis review.

Destined to be relegated to the realms of the forgettably pleasant, Eidesis moves from its peppery opening, to its cedar-y heart and finally its vetiver base in decidedly unremarkable fashion, thereby aligning itself with the style and aesthetics of the brand’s more recent releases. Not too long ago, the sand-and-spices allure of Marrakech Intense was considered an apt fit with the company’s identity. Now it seems they’ve decided they need to go for wan and innocuous. Oh well. At least they gave us Morocco for a while.

  1. What is your opinion of Miss Dior eau de Toilet Originale. I love Chypres, especial Mitsuko, my very most favorite of all time. Love your opinions on all things Perfume. Michele Brown
