Many would say we don’t need any more leather perfumes, which would suggest that we certainly don’t need new versions of pre-existing leather perfumes. But sometimes you don’t realise you need something until you get it. This thought was very much on my mind while wearing the subject of my latest review over on YouTube: Tom Ford Ombre Leather parfum (the follow-up to the Ombre Leather edp first released as a limited edition in 2016 and then added to the brand’s main range in 2018). You can watch the video at this link: Tom Ford Ombre Leather parfum review.
As is the case with amber scents, it can be quite difficult to describe in words what differentiates one leather fragrance from another, or how a new leather creation justifies its existence alongside the hundreds that have come before. But this new ‘parfum’ iteration of OL was the first tannery-centred fragrance that made me picture the Emcee in Cabaret. And that in itself is enough for it to earn a place in my collection. Dangerous because it’s slippery and ambiguous, Ombre Leather parfum invites you into its sweet-sweaty world with a deceptively smiling charm. You step across the threshold with ease, although you’re not sure whether you should admit to anyone that the sense of feeling a tiny bit dirty as you descend into the gloom has excited you more than you ever imagined it would. As the song goes: willkommen, bienvenue, welcome.

Love your description. I loved the scent too, much more than the original EDP from a couple of years ago.
Yes, me too. Thanks for writing, Daniel.
I’m so thrown by this scent. When I first sprayed it, I’m not joking, it smelled exactly like a Sharpie permanent marker. It was terrible. Well, 30 minutes go by, I stand up and the next thing I know, I get this intoxicating scent that was like a smokey blackberry’ish (not a word) sort of scent that left me floating an inch off the ground. I’m just trying to figure out how to get over that first 30 minutes. Also, I’m curious if it will smell like permanent marker to someone else who I may encounter within the first 30 minutes of applying it.
Thanks so much for writing.
I guess you could spray it 30 mins before leaving the house…?
