Discovering memories you didn’t even know you had. That’s one of the endless joys of perfumery. And I experienced it again the other when I came across Akro Smoke, part of the debut collection from a brand whose perfumer is none other than Olivier Cresp. I reviewed them all in a recent episode of Love At First Scent, which you can watch at this link: Akro Smoke, Night, Dark, Haze, Awake and Malt reviews.

As I say in the video, Awake and Malt are arguably the weakest of a very strong bunch, ramming their ideas home rather bullishly. But the others are well worth your time, particularly Night (perhaps the most deliciously torrid composition that has made eyes at me all year) and the aforementioned Smoke, with its almost choke-inducing hyper-realism. I urge you to get hold of Akro’s discovery set as soon as you can.
