Episode 52 of Love At First Scent – broadcast on Friday 6th December – was a review of Comme Des Garcons Copper, the new creation by Alienor Massenet. You can watch the video above or by clicking here.

I was quite taken with the fragrance and had to spray some on myself as soon as the broadcast was over. Rather than being metallic, I’d say it’s more electric, using the ‘sparky’ effects of pepper, cut grass and galbanum to send lightning bolts flying through the air. As it progressed, I finally worked out what it had been reminding me of: Amouage Opus VII, the brand’s spice-heavy take on green notes. But it was also hard not to think of Guerlain Vol De Nuit, with its distinctive, ‘fuzzy galbanum’ opening. So in the end, I decided Copper lies somewhere between the Arabian excesses of Amouage and the old-wold refinement of Guerlain. Which isn’t exactly a bad place to be!

  1. It took me a while to finally break open the sample, Yikes! Smells like the inside of the bin we dump lawn clippings in. I can’t get past the hot and heavy rotting grass scent.
